The north Pacific Coast of Costa Rica Entirely encompassed by Guanacaste province, this part of the country is the most visited, yet it is also one of the least populated parts of Costa Rica. Among the best and most easily accessible diving sites in the country, the North Pacific Coast has an abundance of marine life, especially around the Isla Santa Catalina area, Playas del Coco and Playa Ocotal.

The Gulf of Papagayo offers some of the Pacific Ocean’s most interesting marine diversity. The plankton-rich waters support numerous species from big to small. On any given day you may see frogfish, harlequin clown shrimp, seahorses, and octopus, or you might have a lucky encounter with schooling eagle rays, white tip reef sharks, giant Pacific manta rays, or a passing whaleshark. It is a great place to study animal behavior, and the perfect location to be in the middle of the action.
Seasons The north pacific coast of Costa Rica has two distinct seasons: wet and dry. The dry season, from December through April, is most noted for its northerly winds that drop the water temperature down into the low to mid-70’s.This cooler water is host to humpback whales, whale sharks, giant pacific manta rays, and hordes of roving southern stingrays. The wet season, from June through November, is the time to enjoy warmer water reaching into the mid-80’s, and a bit of an increase in the average 35-foot visibility. It is this time of year when you might see the massive schools of golden rays, and when encounters with sharks become an exciting reality.
The beautiful Gulf of Papagayo offers year-round surprises for those who wish to stay above the water. With good visibility, snorkelers can see many different types of reef fish, moray eels, octopus, and even seahorses. If the small creatures aren’t enough for you, your lucky day might just consist of snorkeling with turtles, manta rays, dolphins, or whale sharks!
Our tours don’t stop with snorkeling. Within a 30-minute radius of our beach we will happily zip you around in search of playful surface creatures. Depending on the season we are able to see mating sea turtles, countless curious dolphins, massive humpback whales with their calves, and again, the impressive whale shark.
The most beautiful part of Costa Rica’s coastline is what is inaccessible by land. We are able to take you away from the other tourists, the hotels, and civilization and bring you to an isolated beach that is the vision of paradise. Whether you want to stay the whole day, a quick snorkel from the shore, or simply to explore a cave or two, there is no place that is off-limits.

Costa Rica is home to the famed Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point, both world class breaks that are every surfer’s dream. Their awesome waves and their inaccessibility make them both favorite destinations for surfers all over.
Located in Santa Rosa National Park, the easiest and quickest way to these waves is an hour-long boat ride across the Gulf of Papagayo. This practically guarantees a non-crowded beach and an unbelievable experience.
Playa Naranjo, in front of the legendary Witch’s Rock, is a beautiful, kilometers-long beach that is frequented by numerous types of wildlife.
Playa Portrero Grande, or Ollie’s Point, is a bit to the north of the other beaches, and had its waves immortalized in the movie Endless Summer II. We are happy to offer either boat for this trip and count with all the necessary permits from the parks department for legal and safe entry into the park.
And no where in Costa Rica are the great waves more abundant than here in the North Pacific... in fact, two of the top world class spots are right up the coast from us in Coco... Witches Rock And Ollies Point. And just down the road to the South are spots like Playa Grande, Avellanas, Playa Negra, Marbella, Playa Guiones and lots of lesser-known spots in between.
