Tenorio Rainforest:

The Tenorio area is not only known for being the best place in Costa Rica to see sloth, it’s also one of the birders and photographers favorite places for bird watching. This region is a fantastic hidden gem that should be considered on any extensive bird watching or photography journey to Costa Rica. It’s an interesting region, a valley situated between the Miravalles and Tenorio Volcanoes, that is technically a Caribbean Slope location but has the distinct advantage of getting crossover species from the dry forests of Guanacaste. This makes the location a true wonderland. Visitors often are surprised by the species they find in this area. For those less familiar with neotropical bird life, Toucans, Trogons, falcons, eagles, hawk, Aracaris, Tanagers and Honeycreepers, many of them brightly colored, may be seen around the Tenorio rainforest, For the more experienced birder, Bijagua is the place to see Tody Motmot and Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo, though neither of these birds is easily seen, and the latter is distinctly seasonal and highly dependent on the presence of army ant swarms.
